1 of my favorite moments from ⁦The Reading League⁩ Conferences. From the one & only Dr. Marianne Wolf dispelling the myth of “drill and kill” . “Actually what we are doing is giving multiple exposures to the visual word form area in the visual cortex.” TRL 2023 Conf. 17 days!

⭐Spotlight on Bridge to Reading: Red Words are high-frequency words that are the most commonly used words in printed & written text. These words are not meant to be memorized; children will learn to stop & think about each word before reading or writing 🔗bit.ly/3JzTTiD

If a school teaches Fundations K-2, it is so important to continue building on that foundation. Remind Ss that the drills may go away, but the skills do not. Upper-grade Ts need to learn the 6 syllable types & division rules along with other skills in order to keep the momentum.

If you’ve been experiencing confusion lately, looks like you’re in good company. Mother Nature seems pretty confused. Maybe we should take a cue and begin to shed & bloom at the same time. 😳🌸 Shed what no longer serves you, grow in new ways. ❤️

Take one guess what tonight’s topic is for this 10-part #StructuredLiteracy Learning series for Holliston Schools?! Decodable books are NOT Decodable without explicit, systematic instruction of letter-sound correspondences! Furthermore, not all “Decodables” are decodable (gasp!)

How can you build comprehension/language comp when kiddos have not reached the automatic phase of reading? Planned instructional read alouds. Are you prioritizing reading aloud to students?
