There is a lot of follow-on drug development, largely triggered by the increase in PoS from a first in class agent! We should think about how to regulate these follow on efforts to maximize social benefit!

I'm going to be taking an extended Twitter posting break. Will still check-in occasionally for news & to answer DMs from friends, but will mostly be staying off! It's been fun!

I wouldn’t normally do this, but if anyone who follows me has a good immigration lawyer they’d recommend, I currently need their services for a dear friend of mine. Much appreciated ♥️!

I find it very surprising that Merck was not one of the first firms to begin developing kinase inhibitors in the 1980s, as Scolnick was deeply exposed to the basic work of Weinberg et al at NCI.

Given the new Executive Order on drug prices, my just published article in the Journal of Economic Perspectives may be of interest. We shouldn’t fool ourselves that there won’t be trade offs from a policy such as this. In the article, I summarize and discuss what we know.

There already exists an excellent economics paper by Dubois, Ashvin Gandhi and Shosh Vasserman on this (disastrous) economic policy. The equilibrium result will be only slightly lower prices in the US but much higher prices everywhere else.

Incredibly naive question time. What in the globally accepted cause of *adipose* insulin resistance (resistance to insulin’s ability to shut down lipolysis). In muscle, lots of agreement that excess / ectopic lipid messes up insulin signaling. Same mechanism? Ethan J. Weiss maybe?
