Pakistan has urged UN Security Council to shed selective approach in implementation of its resolutions & evolve a mechanism whereby resolutions especially on longstanding disputes are implemented uniformly. It said that failure on this count undermines credibility of the Council.

Taking part in an open debate on the working methods of UNSC, DPR Amb Usman Jadoon expressed Pakistan's concerns at the continuing encroachment by the Security Council on the functions & powers of the General Assembly & called for upholding GA's role as principal organ of UN.

Pakistan has said that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza by destroying agricultural land & fishing fleet, thus exacerbating the risk of famine. The Israeli actions, combined with other oppressive measures, amount to collective punishment against Palestinians.

Terming the UN Secretary General's attempt to outline a new peace agenda as bold & timely, Pakistan has reiterated its call for renewed commitment to the UN Charter. It advocated for cooperative multilateralism based on sovereign equality to be placed at center of int'l relations

Pakistan has welcomed South Africa’s initiative to bring Israel’s transgressions under Genocide Convention to ICJ. Pakistan also looks forward to the Advisory Opinion of ICJ on the legal consequences arising from policies & practices of Israel in Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Usman Jadoon made these remarks in a statement during UN Security Council Open Debate on addressing the threat posed by diversion, illicit trafficking and misuse of small arms and light weapons and their ammunition to peace and security.

Pakistan has highlighted the need for comprehensive reforms to make the United Nations Security Council more representative, more democratic, more transparent & more accountable. The country has opposed the expansion of the permanent membership of the UNSC with or without a veto.

Pakistan has said that UN SG’s report on “Assistance to the Palestinian People” serves as a poignant reminder of tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza created by Israel’s latest aggression against the Palestinians, in blatant disregard of the recent UNGA resolution & int'l law.

'We sincerely hope that the Security Council will adopt resolution & will listen to brave, courageous and principled position of the Secretary General.'
