Teaching as art? Science? Business? Craft? All of the above? Other? And what that tells us about teaching in general. #EdChat #teaching #teacher laurenbrownoned.substack.com/p/teaching-as-…

So fun to talk to Bill. “Memorizing” is one of those polarizing words. Give this a listen before you jump to conclusions. #edchat #sschat #ushistory

"Memorization" has a bad vibe when it comes to #education. But as I read more #scienceoflearning I wonder if what we mean when we have students memorize something like the 50 states is that we actually just want them to learn it. Podcast below addresses that question #SOL #edchat

Parents… If you send an encouraging email to your child’s teacher, please know there is a good chance they will print it out and save it in a file. They will reread it when they are feeling down. Your encouraging words will go a long way. P.S. It’s Teacher Appreciation Week.

We don't often think about history and math when we think "interdisciplinary." But sometimes kids need math to think more deeply about history. More on Bill's "Centering the Pendulum" podcast. #sschat #edchat #mathteacher #historyteacher

Because history and geography, though they are different disciplines, are also interdisciplinary and need each other. #edchat #sschat

If reading a good history book could inspire Lin-Manuel Miranda to write a hit musical, maybe you should try reading to the students in your history class? Read more at: laurenbrownoned.substack.com/p/the-power-of… #sschat #edchat #reading

I'd add a 3rd: rich content--lesson is ABOUT something that matters. Of course the hard part for some is figuring out what matters, because not everyone agrees. Even if we all agree that, e.g., USHist matters, in 2025 that gets politicized pretty quickly. #edchat #sschat

Oh, you mean we have to study things in order to learn them? Read how this teacher is just like her students, fooling herself into thinking that somehow she can learn something without putting in the work. My adventures in learning Spanish: laurenbrownoned.substack.com/p/what-im-lear…

New study questions whether prior knowledge matters for new learning. 😬 But 3 days of “training” doesn't = deep understanding. Real knowledge takes time, connection, and consolidation. Teachers know this. #scienceoflearning #edchat More here: substack.com/profile/258511…
