25.5.2025. Crog Hill, Lambourn, Berks. It's coming to the end of the Duke of Burgundy season, but on a windy day, we still found 3 individuals, sheltering in the scrub. Butterfly Conservation πŸ¦‹ BC Upper Thames #NorthWessexDowns #BerkshireDowns #butterflies

A small team surveyed for Agonopterix atomella larvae at MOD Otmoor yesterday, to keep an eye on the population. We also have a project to search other sites with the larval foodplant, Dyer's greenweed, in the hope of finding new locations in the UT area Butterfly Conservation πŸ¦‹

I think this is my first May sighting of Black Hairstreak, with nearly 20 spotted in Salcey Forest today! Also came across a couple of bees nests!🐝🐝 Beds and Northants BC BC Upper Thames Alan Neale

Surveying for Grapholita pallifrontana this afternoon. Both the wild liquorice and the moth seem to be doing well at this Oxfordshire site.

How do you turn fields ploughed up in 1945 and growing cereals and a rye grass monoculture for 55 years into a wildlife refuge for rare chalk grassland plants and insects? Join me to find out on a guided walk at BBO Wildlife Trust Dancersend Extension on 21 June. See bbowt.org.uk/events/2025-06…

Glad I made the effort to go and look for Black Hairstreaks at Hewins Wood, nr. Calvert (Bucks) today - was crawling with them! Absolute stunners - they’re early this year! BC Upper Thames

Fantastic morning watching several Black Hairstreak butterflies in the Tattenhoe Valley Park in Milton Keynes today with Kevin . Some pristine, others worn, basking and feeding near eye level and in chases between the usual treetops. BC Upper Thames

Good variety of butterfly species in Salcey Forest, including courting Wood White and a Black Hairstreak with a torn wing, giving a rare glimse of its overwing! Beds and Northants BC Alan Neale BC Upper Thames

Small Tortoiseshell, Somerset, yesterday. I think this species seems to be having a… I hesitate to say β€˜good’ year, but better than usual year? Are others finding that? Butterfly Conservation πŸ¦‹
