Ever wondered what happens to the sand from our beaches after a big storm? Does it ever come back? We looked at beach recovery since the extreme winter storms of 2013/14 and what we found was quite surprising... authors.elsevier.com/c/1dHFi,3sl3pc…

Happy Friday Everyone!! A laser scan at Chesil has now been completed. Once the data has been processed we will compare it to the last scan to see if there have been any changes/movement.

First installation for the Natural Environment Research Council funded University of Plymouth netCTF project, deploying a newly developed system at the @BIForUoB FACE field site. Monitoring forest canopy temperatures with thermal IR and RGB cameras. An impressive facility even if it is a long way from the sea!

We are taking 30 cm sediment cores of the atoll island and conduct permeability tests at the field station to quantify the hydraulic conductivity - essential for modelling overwash. Note fresh overwash in one of the pics. Coastal Processes Research Group Plymouth Research

A hi-tech sensor called a ‘B-Scan Sensor Unit’ has been installed on Hayling Island beach this week by Coastal Marine Applied Research The sensor will help us to understand how the beach responds to storms & surge events. The B-Scan system purely monitors beach material.
