Hunger drives conflict & increases extremism. In north-eastern Nigeria, funding cuts have forced the World Food Programme to ration support. Now it has run out. "It will be much easier for militants to lure youths to join them," Trust Mlambo, WFP's head of operations in the area tells the BBC.

Hunger is unequal: in every region, women and girls are more impacted by hunger and malnutrition than men. Gender sensitive policies and programmes must be scaled up and resourced. Hunger is human-made and so are the solutions. The time to act is NOW. #SOFI2025 #HungryforAction

In 2022, over 2.8 billion people, or one-third of the world, could not afford a healthy diet. In low-income countries, 71.5% were affected, compared with 6.3% in high-income countries. A clear sign of global nutritional inequality. #FoodSecurity #SOFI
