I'm very proud of the work we've been doing General Proximity the past few years. It's been an incredible whirlwind of learning and exciting discoveries. Follow along to learn about what we've been up to and what we're planning to accomplish as we keep making progress.

Control proximity; control biology.

This has created intense competition for undergraduate lab positions, most of which are unpaid, poorly structured, lack clear educational or vocational value, and often are simply free labor for labs. It's far from clear this is serving the students in any way.

This in turn has had the net effect has been a homogenization of the experiences, interests and talents of graduate classes. They are indeed often all individually impressive - but impressive in the same way. And this, to me, is the real danger.

Hope this gets rolled out wider! I'd love it in SF.

The reason I find it thoughtful is that it explains the tradeoffs we choose. 1) We restrict the actions of children to walk, but not of the elderly to drive. 2) We prosecute the parents who let the children walk independently, but not the 76 year old driver who hit the kid.
