Despite this year’s House Martin success on my estate it is depressing to be informed by a neighbour that they witnessed their’s hosing down a nest. It’s possibly occurring on other houses as well. Visit to stowlangtoft water tower yesterday, the largest known house martin colony in Suffolk, c40 active nests, despite the poor weather and cold spring. The local House Martin colony at Shafford Farm, St Albans has 45 nests this year; up 8 on 2023. However, it all seems later this time around with no fledged young just yet (June 25 last year) and many nests still under construction. #hertsbirds
