🔥Fieldwork🔥 Pia Labenski & Johannes Senn ⌘ are currently working in the Peak District (up North in England), collecting data on vegetation recovery 🌿 after wildfires. An exciting collaboration with Toward a UK Fire Danger Rating System to monitor fuel dynamics in moorlands. #WildfireResearch #blueberries

End of an era! Packing up all 36 fuel moisture monitoring plots on the North York Moors. Thank you to the Estates and individuals involved in making such an extensive landscape scale fuel moisture campaign possible. Look out for our results 👀 #firedanger #fireweather #fmc

We have 3 years of soil moisture / temperature and surface temperature data from across the moors too, please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in doing some science with it! :)

Happy to share this piece of research completed with some of the University of Birmingham Undergraduate Geography cohort in the 2022 Fieldwork Project Design and GIS module! doi.org/10.1071/WF23078 This was a really positive experience of research-embedded education 🧵

As we begin to move into the 2024 wildfire season, here are some of the headline results collected last year by the amazing #TheGreatFuelMoistureSurvey volunteers

Toward a UK Fire Danger Rating System Great presentation by Katy Ivison yesterday at #EGU24 outlining the controls on fuel moisture content across the UK and their response to extreme heat wave conditions.

🔥 New study 🔥 Pia Labenski used satellite data to track post-fire vegetation recovery across UK upland moorlands! 🛰🌿 Key finding: grasslands bounce back fast, but heather & bogs take up to 3 years to recover spectrally! doi.org/10.1016/j.indi…

Exciting to learn about the outputs from the Toward a UK Fire Danger Rating System project. A ton of hard work has gone into developing FireInSite - their trial fire behaviour predictions model for the UK. Gareth Clay and the team would love your feedback. Check it out: fireinsite.org #wildfire2024

Day 3 in Aberdeen is National Fire Chiefs Council #WildfireTacAds CPD day following Wildfire2024. Receiving input from Toward a UK Fire Danger Rating System on a fire behaviour prediction system, PDG Aviation Services on helicopter use, followed by an assurance exercise. Thanks to Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for hosting our CPD event this year
