The #HarvestMoneyExpo is on at the Kololo Airstrip from today, Friday 18th March to Sunday 20th March 2022. The expo will be officially opened by Hon. Frank K Tumwebaze,MP: Isaiah 41: 11 the Minister for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries later today.

Today, we have held a meeting with representatives of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) the institution that has been managing the Electronic Voucher System of the Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP).

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries introduced this mobile-based system to be used by the farmers to purchase critical farm in-puts including fertilisers, agro-chemicals, seeds and equipment for post-harvest handling and processing from agro-input dealers.

When a registered farmer loads money on their account, Government tops up for them through the ACDP matching grant scheme. In the first season, Government invests 67% for the farmer for the purchase of inputs and the farmer pays 33%.

In the second season, 50% is contributed from Government and 50% from the farmer and in the third season, 33% from the farmer, 67% from Government. By the fourth season, the farmer is expected to have a self-sustaining agro-enterprise and therefore no need for government suppor

To address the challenge of limited know-how in using ICT-based systems, the Ministry partnered with the United Bank of Africa (UBA) to also train farmers in both basic use of ICT and the e-voucher system.

Since this was the first time the system was being rolled out in Uganda, we have picked lessons and would like to reassure farmers of improved efficiency of the e-voucher system going forward.

The electronic voucher system, a mobile-based system which farmers registered under the Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP) have been using to purchase subsidised inputs has been handed over to MAAIF by the United Bank of Africa. Frank K Tumwebaze,MP: Isaiah 41: 11

We ended the day in Kumi & launched Road & Bridge choke works on Kacalakweny-Tisai Road under Agriculture Cluster Development Project -Uganda . All these interventions are intended to support farmers at the various stages of their enterprise value chain (production & marketing). We cross to Abim ( Karamoja) tomorrow.

The road is to help farmers of Tisai Island access market.
