There was plenty of pizza and smiles as the Facilities Grounds staff was celebrated for their hard work over the past year. The team was instrumental in responding to a series of winter storms that damaged approximately 400 trees on Mount Sutro.

Help make a child's day by donating a new toy at this year's Facilities Toys for Tots toy drive. Drop-off bins are available at the Facilities Office, 1650 3rd Street, Mission Bay; and multiple sites at Parnassus. Toys for Tots accepts new toys, books, and stocking stuffers.

The Facilities Energy & Water team recently completed two water conservation projects at Mission Bay, working with the Infrastructure Programs team for project delivery. New urinals and steam traps will save more than 700,000 gallons per year.

Christina Vickers, administrative assistant with the Facilities Customer Service Center, recently attended Facility Fusion 2023, held at the Hilton San Francisco Hotel at Union Square. The annual event is organized by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).

Facilities employees have transitioned to new uniforms. The primary difference between the old uniforms and the new unit-specific uniforms lies in the style and a higher technology material. Pants with a multitude of pockets and built-in kneepad cushions are popular.

Kate Shimshock, Emergency Preparedness & Safety Coordinator, has been awarded the Super Spot Award for her outstanding management of secure equipment removal at UCSF. Kate has coordinated eight secure equipment removals at UCSF since 2019. Thanks, Kate!

The first cohort of UCSF Facilities ESL students completed the inaugural ESL At Work Program, in partnership with City College of San Francisco. A total of 20 dedicated learners from various Facilities departments graduated. Congratulations!

UCSF Facilities Manager Josh Adams recently worked with a local small business, Bird Busters Inc., to clean the awnings at the rear entry to the School of Dentistry and the Irving Street entrance to the Millberry Union garage. What a difference the cleaning made!

UCSF Facilities Renewal and Project Delivery recently partnered with UCSF Environment, Health & Safety Fire Prevention to install more than 40 new flammable liquid storage cabinets in six buildings. The new cabinets replace non-compliant or damaged units.

Facilities recently refurbished the air handling units at the Cardiovascular Research Building and Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Center. This included rust removal. The work will extend the life of the equipment.
