Am I a master bird identifier? Nope. Is my camera a good one? No, it’s a phone. Regardless, I’m pretty darn sure I saw a #BaldEagle on #Uconn campus this morning 😁🦅

Last week was Field Week with Natural Resources Conservation Academy! On forest day we took a hike, learned about measuring trees, growing trees, felling trees, etc. It poured the whole time giving new meaning to the concept of #forestbathing🌧️🌳

Trees are falling on horsebarn hill lately 😯🌳Ash trees here are infested with emerald ash borers🪲 An operation is removing those dead and dying specimens & cleaning up the stand to provide safety on trails and encourage regeneration of ash and other tree species.

Dendrology Prof. Tom came in this morning with a weird oak stick! It was very creative, growing wood and bark inclusions in novel patterns. At first glance it looks like some insect construction, but it’s all wood. Cause is currently a mystery to us!

There are some stellar examples of #forestry today coming from tribal people, traditions, and ways of thinking. And #Indigenous values and practices apply so well in this time of climatic uncertainty! Looking forward to this series.
