Fun time at SICB 2023 conference to present my work on Binaural hearing of small mammals. I am honored to be selected for the SICB Professional Development Award. Thanks to my mentor Dr. Liz McCullagh , OSU Integrative BIOL ,and all the co-authors.

#SICB2023: Shayne Halter finds that torpor allows hummingbirds to save energy and reduce body mass loss, ESPECIALLY for smaller birds. Smaller birds are more likely to go into torpor. Torpor frequency vanished as birds got larger within a species.

Getting ready to leave for the 10 hour drive back from #SICB2023, I can't believe I co-hosted a symposium, gave a talk I completely re-wrote the night before, and made so many terrific connections with other scientists in less than a week. Thanks so much everyone! SICB

Back from #SICB2023! Still processing how much cool science, excellent conversations, & serendipitous connection happened in just 4 days. I will keep testing for the next 2 weeks, but I was surprised & impressed how well attendees respected the conference mask requirement.SICB
