#rustlang now has an accepted RFC for I/O Safety, to handle the lifetimes of file descriptors (on UNIX) and OS handles and sockets (on Windows): github.com/rust-lang/rfcs… This will make it possible to write safe functions that operate on these underlying OS objects.

#Medical #AI has the worst superpower... Racism We've put out a preprint reporting concerning findings. AI can do something humans can't: recognise the self-reported race of patients on x-rays. This gives AI a path to produce health disparities. 1/8 lukeoakdenrayner.wordpress.com/2021/08/02/ai-…

Awesome way to celebrate all the working going into Rust Language 2021. Spending all the time to write up this message shows how people in this community care. Thanks, Mara, for everything you’ve done for the edition! github.com/rust-lang/rust…

wow, we finally have a number. 75% of the ad impressions in the United States are served by Google Ad Manager according to Google's internal docs. I'm sure the fact they also own the dominant browser, search engine, buying platforms is irrelevant. /25

Is watching the 1984 Ghostbusters movie killing people? Recent data show death rate of 10-59yr olds who have watched the 1984 Ghostbuster Movie is 2x higher than those who have watched the 2021 Ghostbuster movie I don't know how to explain this other than movie-caused mortality

Stateless runtime execution is a desirable feature for all the reasons a global variable isn't. Long lived processes are bug farms waiting for exploits. Uptime was a workaround. Stateless enables higher availability, throughput, and parallelism.
