At 8.16am - FTSE 100 - 8,250.14 −48.32 (-0.58%) - Not too bad an opening. considering the shake-out on Wal Street. However, in fairness the fundamentals are very different. Our modest manufacturing was good and the UK has no large tech titans whose valuations might concern us

Labour: Tory leadership field a ‘damning indictment’ of state of Conservative Party. Labour has more front than Brighton Pier commenting. It has hardly covered itself in glory in its first 2 months of government. I suppose it has a minimum of 4 years 10 months to prove its worth

A weaker Labour market & dovish Fed comments pushed Wall Street just into negative territory yesterday, ahead of Friday's US payroll data. Europe lack-lustre. Oil $72. Asia flat. Opening calls short of impetus. FTSE -19 @ 8250 DAX -48 @ 18542 CAC -19 @ & 7578 DJIA -35 @ 40939

BLOOMBERG - US job openings fell in July to the lowest level since the start of 2021 as company firings rose. The decline coincides with recent data that show the labor market softening. An economic soft landing has heightened concerns the FED has waited too long to cut rates.

Hyperbole is often mis-used. Nonetheless former Justice Secretary Alex Chalk is the most articulate politician, who strutted his stuff with LBC’S Nick Ferrari this AM, I’ve heard for years: knowledgeable, enthusiastic & fun. Clearly nonsense has been pedalled by Labour on prisons

David Buik Kelvis They are not prisoners. They are folk being held in remand, awaiting trial. A large number of them have been waiting for unacceptably long periods of time. Taking up much-needed space in our prisons. Why so many and why for so long?

Can some modicum of peace & a sense of unanimity be brought to the French political scene by PM Barnier. He will certainly earn his corn if he makes any progress. As for foreign affairs his loathing of the UK & his contempt of BREXIT suggests he will not be a cosy bed partner.
