We tested how autonomous AI agents perform on real software tasks from our recent developer productivity RCT. We found a gap between algorithmic scoring and real-world usability that may help explain why AI benchmarks feel disconnected from reality.

METR and Forecasting Research Institute ran a small pilot study on whether AI risk experts and superforecasters (n=18) expect AI could cause an extreme speedup of AI progress. We think others may find value in our operationalizations, even though the results are on a small and biased sample.
