I'm not saying American history nerds aren't panicking too, but there's a part of us that's a little psyched to hear the band play all these deep cuts.

One of the great joys of my life was the 15 (!) years I spent working on this podcast. I am delighted to announce its relaunch with my hand-picked successor, the great Charles C. W. Cooke. Go listen to my friends!

The most underdiscussed thing about Lincoln's murder is that it was the one presidential assassination that actually *was* a conspiracy and it's also a good reference point for how actual conspiracies work (the other aspects of it all went awry).

This is otherwise a great movie but I've always resented this scene, which makes Truman seem boorish and unreflective when his actual point was that the moral weight rested entirely on his shoulders.

Otherwise a good choice, but I already know that 20 years from now I'm still going to be as mad as I am today about this being singular.

I’m broadly pessimistic about this era in popular culture but one of the real silver linings is this thing we’re doing now where certain celebrities get into their 60s, there’s an emergent “you’re a national treasure” consensus, and we give them all the things.

Leon Russell told a story once about a session where Wilson went around a circle of, like, a dozen and a half musicians, sang them all their parts off the top of his head, they all forgot by the time he was finished, so he just went around the circle and did it again. Genius.
