Between the 9pm storm and the 5am storm, 9467 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes were recorded over a 12 hour period.

35,785 cloud-to-cloud strikes were recorded by the HKO over the same time frame.

Not an ideal night for the crew and passengers on HK Express UO183 from Taichung to HKG. Caught up in the storm delays. Diverted to Taipei (further than they started!) and imagine crew are out of hours for tonight.
