I'm often asked what is one thing a recruited high school athlete needs to do to prepare for college and NIL: 1) Work and train hard. If you aren't on the field, your opportunities will be limited; 2) Find an attorney you can trust to review all contracts.

Alignment from the President's office down through athletics and to the coaches is more critical than ever. It permeates spending, strategic communication and decision making.

Great overview of the evolution of the Battery in Atlanta. While this story focuses on baseball, a number of colleges are looking at these types of developments. Shout out to my friends at @braves Derek Schiller and Mike Plant for being trailblazers. espn.com/mlb/story/_/id…

Roughly 2% of college athletes will be impacted by the spending limits and controls outlined in the House Settlement. For the remaining 98%, it will mean more full scholarship opportunities and the ability to earn cash from a side hustle based on their Name, Image and Likeness.

Most interesting phrase in the answer is "the student-athlete's athletic performance," which IMHO, further contradicts the "this is not play-for-pay" narrative. It also could further validate the current market climate.

Instead of Fair Market Value, it's Range of Compensation. I find bullet 2 (where did the historical deal data come from?) and bullet 3 particularly interesting. Athletic performance AND institutional market size. QB1 @ School A can make more for an activity as QB1 at School B.

The Name, Image and Likeness issue isn't limited to just endorsements and commercials. Player NIL also involves live ticketed and televised events. That, to me, is the basis for "school revenue share." It's also a strong basis for how professional salary caps are defined.

I wonder if one of the unintended consequences of the "rush to beat the House Settlement" is that the schools in this period re-set the market, which will come back around in determining what is "fair."

Adding 196 new athletic scholarship opportunities is significant. Will be interested to see how those are distributed and also how many other schools make that kind of commitment.

College sports needs effective governance and enforcement that is transparent and clear. Maybe the College Sports Commission is a step in the right direction, but there already appear to be a number of opaque criteria being used making it difficult to execute fairly over time.

I would expect to see more innovation in the local/regional media space. Gray Media has been at the forefront of this, which makes sense given its enormous footprint.

Great Kansas Jayhawks day here in Atlanta. Grateful for the generosity of David Booth…course changing for Travis Goff and team. Then met Lucas Smalls-Allen 3⭐️, who will be headed to Lawrence in January. #RCJH!!
