A lovely jaunt to Galway today for some important discussions on craft skills training at ATU Galway with Colm Murray DigitalHeritageAge & others, plus a pitstop en route home at the hulking, handsome Merlin Castle to admire the conservation done by my colleagues CORA Consulting Engineers last year
Nice find under our floorboards that Colm Browning has been lifting this weekend, must date from 1926 when the house was built & as it pre-dates the Player Wills factory down the road in Dublin 8, I assume these were made in the UK - unless anyone knows any better?
Interested in working with or caring for old buildings? SPAB Ireland are running a #workshop in Kilkenny this weekend on 'Keeping Traditional Walls Warm'. We will be speaking about contemporary approaches to sustainably treating traditional walls. eventbrite.ie/e/spab-ireland…
I absolutely love the Philo mural in Crumlin by Sarah Bracken Soper, makes me smile (& hum 'Old Town' to myself) everytime I see it. The pollinator-friendly planting makes it a gorgeous little corner of Dublin 12, thanks to Bloomin Crumlin Crumlin Community Cleanup & everyone involved 👏
Gearing up for International Women in Engineering Day this Thursday ⬇️Thanks to Trinity Women Grads for the invitation to speak at this online event to discuss my unusual career path to working on conservation of historic buildings 🏰 INWED CORA Consulting Engineers
Guinness, I love ya, but the lack of maintenance on your lovely Protected Structures beside Guinness Storehouse is breaking my heart💔Plants don't belong on buildings, particularly woody-stemmed buddleia! Good at pints, not good at #BuildingMaintenance 👎
Work in a trade with old buildings? There's just a week to apply for the 2023 #SPABFellowship ➡️ ow.ly/3JSE50KnVv2 A unique opportunity for craftspeople to travel around the UK & Ireland to develop skills and learn from experts. No fees, bursary included. SPAB Ireland
