#OwlishMonday What's not to love about the cover art of Ernest G Henham's fantasy horror tale 'Tenebrae' (1898) which features a giant spider & a narrator who spends his daze in a black room studying arcane manuscripts?

Everyone should listen to Carolyn Porco … this alien spaceship stuff is completely out of hand - it’s OVERWHELMINGLY likely to be a lump of ice and rock. We went through similar nonsense with the ‘LHC might create a black hole and destroy the world’ fiasco. There is value in

#AdoorableThursday This rather somber antique door is currently for sale - which reminds me of a 👻story about a man who installs an impressive second-hand door in his home only to find that whenever it is opened it is on to a scene of unutterable ghastliness. Just saying.....

Hookland I've tried outrunning a Barrow Hound on my mobility scooter, revving up to a full 12mph & just about got away which might be attributed to the scooter having being blessed by a priest. However the hound did leave some terrible scratches on the paintwork.

The simple dolmen of Rostudel in Crozon (Finistère) has a capstone of 3 orthostats. There are at least 10 early cards of it many of which use carefully chosen or positioned figures for animation to exaggerate its size- it is little more than 1m tall.

Every river has it tutelary deity. Ever river sings a unique song telling of the land it has passed through. The witch learns the deity's name, quietens herself till she can hear its song. For the conversation with rivers is an immersion into liquid wisdom. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982
