Trends are tools. Use them. But know when you're following a trend vs. when you're following a real insight. Research is helpful here.

Stuck on this idea of hall monitor power. Just enough to be annoying but not enough to meaningful affect change in the world. The worst. That's "manager mode".

Everywhere I've worked that's done employee sentiment surveys has come back showing that the design team is the least happy team. I think that's often because designers are trained in seeing how the world can be and are forced to face the reality of what the world is daily.
