These pinewoods are part of Scotland’s temperate rainforest. Located in the far north west of Scotland, they are exposed to a milder and wetter oceanic climate than the majority of Scotland’s Caledonian pinewoods. They form part of a genetically distinct seed zone for Scots pine.

Soils - the foundation of it all. Without these hidden, bustling, intriguing ecosystems, we cannot create new woodlands. Our team have been on the ground surveying soils. The results will help to inform our exciting woodland creation designs. #WorldSoilDay 🐌🪲🌱

We are often asked “when is it safe to take down a deer fence?”. The simple answer is: not until deer numbers are sufficiently low.   This mature Scots pine which has been damaged by red deer rubbing their antlers on the trunk, one of many across this upland site.  🌳🦌🌲

A shot from our Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment on a native woodland creation scheme in the north west. If we have done our jobs right, the new woodland will integrate seamlessly with the surrounding semi natural woodland… and you’ll never know we’ve been here. 🌱⛰🌳

The yellow catkins dangling from hazel trees have caught our eyes recently. The female flowers are more tricky to spot! Look for small green buds with tiny red tendrils protruding from them. If successfully pollinated, the female flower will develop into a hazelnut.

Lots to consider after the ICF National Conference this week. We have always strived to create climate resilient, biodiverse forests; but we don't intend to rest on our laurels. We are considering what more we can we do to achieve net zero and conduct #ClimateSmartForestry.
