Very happy to be joining #XPRIZERainforest finalist @TeamWaponi and Outreach Robotics to help them map canopy tree biodiversity and structure, using drone RGB imagery, LiDAR and AI! teamwaponi.wixsite.com/home/ourteam

Last October the Scotty Creek Research Station in NWT burnt down. Weeks prior we had acquired drone imagery. We went back in Sept to monitor the impact. This will allow us to quantify the extent of the damage in terms of vegetation and carbon stocks. cbc.ca/news/canada/no…

In this new study from our lab, Myriam Cloutier shows that segmentation of temperate trees from drone imagery works best at the onset of autumn when leaves start of deciduous trees start to change color. authors.elsevier.com/c/1jMU27qzT3EBA

We're delighted to announce that our Limelight Rainforest team made it on the podium of #XPRIZERainforest! Regardless of the result (🥇🥈or🥉???), we're very proud of Plant Functional Ecology Lab's contribution to Limelight Rainforest through our innovative canopy tree mapping solution🌳Stay tuned for more!

We're working on Barro Colorado Island with Helene Muller-Landau's team to refine our winning #XPRIZERainforest canopy tree mapping solution. We're now confident enough in our workflow to the drone move closer to trees to take even better photos. #BioCLIP correctly ID'ed that one!

To win #XPRIZERainforest we developed an automatic workflow to acquire close-up photos of tropical trees to support biodiversity monitoring. Here’s what it looks like it action at Tiputini Biodiversity Station youtu.be/80goMEifpc4?fe…
