Generally speaking, except for some executive positions & political appointments, the vast majority of state workers are significantly underpaid. Among other things, this leads to high turnover & challenges with recruitment. We get what we pay for, and we aren’t paying enough.

There is one reason—and only one reason—for the rich, powerful push for the privatization of public education. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. #txed #txlege

The local neighborhood public school is a treasured American democratic institution. It creates an informed citizenry & trained workforce. It honors & unifies the diversity of our great nation. It provides for our poorest children. You own it. Please protect it. #txed #txlege

Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!

Districts or schools that remove students from physical education, music, Arts, or other classes to remediate them in other areas, have no idea of the immediate and long term damage they are doing to these students. These may be classes that help them love school.

We’ve been talking about this since 2014. We’ve told you it’s coming, and why, and yet people still seem shocked.

There’s lots of talk of using evidence to inform #education policy But since 2010 you’d be hard-pressed to find evidence as consistent or as one-sided as two basic results: Funding #publicschools has a big, reliable return on investment, and #schoolvouchers devastate academics

Something is amiss in the budget and @StephenJOwens_ on #Insights23 pulling back the curtain! Districts are scrambling as they heard about this the same time the rest of us did - when the budget dropped last Friday GBPI #gapol

Voucher Call to Action! Lawmakers dropped a new voucher bill yesterday (Senate Bill 233) and it’s poised to drain millions away from public schools to discriminatory private education. Call/email/text your senator and ask them to vote NO on SB 233. mailchi.mp/0a04ea3f32dd/c…

🚨 STOP Senate Bill 233 🚨 The House Education Policy Subcommittee will hear #SB233 on Monday at 8am, which would privatize education through vouchers. Call House Education members & ask them to vote NO on SB 233. Our Director of Education gives more info #SaveOurSchools #GApol

“There is no evidence that voucher programs actually improve student performance. These vouchers take scarce resources from our public schools–where majority of working families send their children to learn & grow,” writes Tamika W. Kelly in Cardinal & Pine. cardinalpine.com/story/op-ed-pr…

According to GBPI, private school vouchers are hurting rural Georgia and the teacher raise will be eaten up by inflation. We have to do better! #gapol gbpi.org/georgia-educat…

It’s a sham. Underinvestment so that you can claim a surplus makes for good political headlines but has negative impact on hardworking Georgia families and small businesses that aren’t being well served by state. Mental and physical health, education, housing, etc. all suffer.
