For the record. Since 1994 Ukraine already has guarantees of independence and inviolability of borders, also from Russia. In addition, on 22 April 2004 Vladimir Putin solemnly ratified the Treaty on the Russian-Ukrainian Border. Suffice to respect them and the war is over.

If there is one lesson Ukraine learned from its history — be it Budapest memorandum of 1994, Minsk 1 in 2014 and Minsk 2 in 2015 — is that whatever it surrenders to Russia will be used to kill more Ukrainians, and the Western powers that issued security assurances will stand by

1/2. The phrase "land swap" is being used to mean "Ukraine concedes land illegally occupied by Russia and also concedes territory that is not even occupied." That is not a swap.

So far, Russia has failed to achieve any of its stated strategic goals in this war: Demilitarization – failed. Regime change in Kyiv – failed. Full control over Donbas – failed. Preventing NATO enlargement – failed. 🧵Short thread:

The most ironic aspect of Witkoff’s appeal to Russian law as a security guarantee lies in the Russian Criminal Code. Article 353 stipulates that planning, preparing, or starting an aggressive war is punishable by 7–15 years in prison, while waging one carries 10–20 years.

Many analysts, journalists and scholars have still not psychologically and intellectually adjusted to the geopolitical implications of scenarios where the United States ceases to be the dominant global power.

Budapest? Not everyone may remember this, but in 1994 Ukraine already got assurances of territorial integrity from the US, Russia and the UK. In Budapest. Maybe I’m superstitious, but this time I would try to find another place.

They are truly clueless. No russians don’t want territories, they want whole Ukraine, that’s why demands are absurd, to make sure they are never met. This admin is run by kids.

This is exactly what Putin demanded in Istanbul in March 2022. The only difference is that Russia then controlled about 30% of Ukraine, and only 19% today.

Indoctrinated? Please. I hate Russia because I've been tortured by them, seen both POW's and civilians brutalized, and watched a fellow POW executed. Meanwhile you're just a comfy westerner parroting Kremlin lines you picked up online because your angry at your own government. We

Funny how the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stops showing this kind of bravado whenever it is time for Poland and other EUCO governments to decide how much EU funding Hungary is going to get

Another casualty of telling Trump something he doesn't want to hear. The Bureau of Labour Statistics is one thing, but entirely another to fire the head of the Defence Intelligence Agency. I guess it goes to show that not even national security outranks Trump's thin skin.
