I’ve been pushing Govt to appoint new Minister for Disabled People - shocked to learn they're scrapping it. Disabled people need their *own* Minister to address challenges, discrimination & to champion their rights. Shocking downgrade of representation & at time of such hardship.

I spoke with aisling murphy about vision loss on television, writing for CTV’s Sight Unseen, and getting the details right. Appreciate the Toronto Star for taking the time and Writers Guild of Canada for highlighting the article.

Happy #RareDiseaseDay! 😎 Having the rare visual impairment #Aniridia hasn't stopped me living a happy, fulfilled, successful life. In fact, I'm actually a support worker for a good friend who has even more severe sight loss than me. We make a great team! welleyenever.com/2024/02/16/the…

Moments like this are why it's vital to educate everyone, especially those with platforms like BBC Question Time, that sight is a spectrum. People with the same eye condition can have different experiences. For some, wearing eye shields might be due to sensitivity to light.

Hélène Cixous: “I owe some of the most fantastical hallucinatory experiences of my childhood to my extreme nearsightedness: vanishing streets, substitutions, metaphorization and metonymization of the world and of people.” (in an interview collected in Rootprints, tr. Prenowitz)

Following on from this, it seems a lot of people don’t know unfortunately (which I kinda expected!) Symbol canes are intended to let people know the person has low vision, but it isn’t used for navigation purposes like longer canes 😊 V useful infographic below from RNIB
