New today on the YA shelves: five fantasy sequels + two brand-new worlds, a short story collection set in a freaksome future, and a pair of emotionally resonant and hard-hitting contemporaries. bit.ly/2EdYjf8

Talking about equity is like going to the gym. If you talk about it every day and in every conversation, you’ll gain some skill Manuel Pastor #WeAllThrive

#WeAllThrive when education is affordable and accessible for all, when we think about growing minds instead of prepping for jobs.

That's a wrap! #WITSTuscaloosa is done with our programming for this semester. We're already missing our students! Hope the holiday season has ample merriment (and pies and writing) in store for us all. See you in the spring!

As usual, @Tin_House's summer workshop is THE place to be with Whiting winners @surlybassey, Mitchell S. Jackson, and all the other writers you're dying to meet and learn from: buff.ly/2VSsNZq

In academia, it’s really hard to hold on to your vision. Here’s mine: I write so Filipino kids have the opportunity to read about themselves. In academia, this has 0 value. In my life, this means everything. Be sure to add “Hold on to your vision” to your to-do list today.

And we're back! This semester we're at TPL working with teens to write short stories. On Wednesday we discussed plot, which I stole from the great Katherine Karlin: someone wants something, and someone/something is in their way. Can't wait to see what students whip up next week!

Friends, Comrades, young Tuscaloosa Writers, Educators, if you want writers in your schools, or if you know a sixteen year old working on her first novel, or a fifth grader obsessed with rhyming couplets, message us! We want to write with you/your students!

A bookish box featuring *YA* books about *teen* characters and written for a *teen* audience literally included a shot glass as one of their items y’all aren’t even trying to hide the fact that you’re encouraging the YA community to be dominated by adults cool cool
