Labour infighting at Sunderland Council has finally boiled over, with a Washington West councillor defecting to independent this week. "Local people deserve better than months of this Sunderland Labour bickering and backstabbing" say local Lib Dems. 👇 wearsidelibdems.org.uk/news/article/c…

"This shocking revelation that Council bosses seem to have kicked out M&S so that they can knock the building down and build offices is beyond belief" said Wearside Lib Dem deputy leader Heather Fagan. Read more on the BBC website: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Tomorrow we’re going to come together as a city, clean this mess up and show the country what we’re really about. Standing together with Sunderland Labour and Wearside Lib Dems to condemn this awful violence we must show everyone that this is not #Sunderland. We are better than this

Sunderland Labour's 'Starmer Yes Man' leader is defending the indefensible here. Of course millionaires don't need Winter Fuel Payments, but thousands of people on Wearside just above the Pension Credit threshold need help and will miss out - just as energy bills are set to rise

At the first real test of where the loyalties of Sunderland’s Labour MPs lie under this new government they either didn't vote or shamefully backed their party bosses & a new Labour age of austerity instead of doing the decent thing to help older people struggling with fuel bills

The BBC cover comments from our Deputy Leader Councillor Heather Fagan about the campaign to save a Post Office in Sunderland City Centre

Sign our petition urging Post Office and the Labour Government to commit to keeping a post office branch in Sunderland city centre. It has been announced that the current branch on Fawcett Street could be under threat of closure. 👇 wearsidelibdems.org.uk/campaigns/save…

Undoubtedly a downgrade which we are being asked to applaud. The much-loved and culturally significant National Glass Centre is still going to go due to the University’s wilful neglect and indifference from the Council and local MPs who refused to try and save it.

Yesterday, Sunderland Labour voted to raise their own allowances while rejecting a Wearside Lib Dems plan to cut them despite rising council tax and service cuts. Once again, Labour puts higher taxes and pay for themselves above the public. Shameful!

A Lib Dem plan to slash councillor allowances & expenses by £100,000s has been voted down by Sunderland Labour - who voted to give themselves pay rise instead! Labour say there's no money for local services, but can afford to give themselves a pay hike! wearsidelibems.org.uk/news/article/s…

Lib Dem councillors in Millfield & Pallion are fighting to save the Mountain Daisy as a pub, & want guarantees from the Council that any attempt to convert it into shops or housing will be blocked. Steve Donkin's comments feature on today's BBC website 👇 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Lib Dem opposition leader Councillor Paul Edgeworth spoke to the BBC about Sunderland Labour's broken promise to replace the Broadway roundabout with a traffic-light junction, and their disastrous plan to introduce bus lanes instead! More on BBC website👇 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I spoke to the BBC about the Mayor's feeble, unambitious regional transport plan. The Mayor and her Yes Man Sunderland Council leader are treating Wearside with utter contempt and failing to deliver the decent roads, buses & reliable Metro we deserve 👇 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

At today's Prime Minister's Questions, Lib Dem leader Ed Davey has slammed Northumbrian Water for hiking bills and dumping nearly 1 million tonnes of sewage last year around Sunderland & Whitburn. The Labour Government must end this scandal!

In County Durham whilst Labour and Tory votes have totally collapsed across the board, only hard working Lib Dem incumbents have held off the Reform surge. #AtTheCount

Paul Edgeworth (@pauledgeworth) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Sunderland Council's Starmer Yes Man Leader left red-faced after persistently defending the indefensible Winter Fuel cuts - and refusing to even allow councillors to debate a Lib Dem proposal on changing the thresholds, which is exactly what has just happened.

Labour have been quick to claim the credit for this project; it remains to be seen whether they'll now take responsibility for dealing with obstacles like this. Labour council, mayor & gov't have every lever at their disposal to make sure this project happens. They must deliver.
