Stop off in Cumbria started well when eventually found one Northern Brown Argus at Latterbarrow. Signs weren’t good with no reports of sightings but after 2 hrs I struck lucky. Puzzled by missing figure of 8 spot on underwing but the open wing image looks conclusive. 57/59😀

This acrobatic young Raccoon posed nicely as it descended a tree. I didn’t see its mother, but I assume she was somewhere nearby.

1/2 A bit of slow-mo of yesterday's Least Sand for educational purposes. Sharp work by finder Harry's Birds & Wildlife to get photos when it initially flew over him giving a 3 note trill, an important piece of the jigsaw. A tiny dumpy peep with not too obvious dull green yellow legs.

It's always a highlight of my day when I get to see a Least Bittern. These birds are uncommon here and hard to find in the wetlands. This male is making a short flight, flying low over the lily pads and knocking down the morning dew from a cattail.

A male Red-bellied Woodpecker (left) feeding one of his young ones. The red on the young one's noggin is starting to come in. If I had to guess, this one is a male as it looks like some red feathers between the eyes are coming in. Females will have grey on the top of their heads

A pair of White-tailed Deer fawns race across a hay field. Even though these young deer are less than two-months-old they sprint with the ease, grace, and speed of an adult.

These two Ruby-throated Hummingbird nestlings barely fit in the nest. They have been quite active; preening, playing, and testing out their long tongues. Mama Hummingbird has been stopping by to feed them while also building another nest to raise more hummingbirds.

A Great Horned Owl high up in the trees from earlier this year. He was easy to miss; I wonder how many times I've walked past owls without noticing them (I imagine quite a few)🦉
