It’s only been a few weeks, but I’m SO TIRED of the idea that LLMs are tech’s gift to medicine. There’s more to good medicine than parroting back answers (not to mention LLMs are unregulated & generative). A 🧵 thread of my fave papers about why medicine is more than Q&A:

The timing of the election might cause problems for some, esp students coming to the end of term or those who have holidays booked (whoever they intend to vote for). The solution is to apply for a postal vote. Here’s the link to do so. Please share. gov.uk/apply-postal-v…

In Richmond and Northallerton, Greens and LibDems have 0 chance of winning. But if about 1200 of them lend their vote to Labour, they have a strong chance of ousting Rishi Sunak. Please consider #TacticalVoting electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/seatd…

In all our 8 yrs of meetings, Ian and team was the worst. Refusing to accept the CQC knew about Harriet’s death within 3 yr limit. Email exchanges prove they did know. CQC response on #BrokenTrust was they did not know. But you did Ian, we told you and provided the evidence.

If a child died at a school from something avoidable, there would be urgent full investigations, the HSE would be all over it. And if it was felt to be negligence they would prosecute and quickly. The cqc took over those powers from the HSE. Almost zero prosecutions

You know how sometimes I write things? I wrote this one at the weekend. My parents (90 & 93 yrs) were my editing advisers. Thanks to Joe Hawkins for a thought-provoking The BMJ paper (link in article) & to The Guardian for inviting an Opinion piece. bit.ly/TalkNotTests

AMUdoc 💙 Kathryn Mannix That's so true Vincent and the heroic, 'always do something' paradigm often doesn't serve patients or clinicians. Where possible, simply asking patients what they want for themselves, esp when framed around the value of their time, offers them choice, dignity and agency.
