It’s Teacher Tuesday, and we are spotlighting Boulder Valley School District’s Jared Riesel. Jared is a teacher librarian at Eldorado PK-8 School and has been an educator for 16 years!
Our new Summer Reading Spotlight in collaboration with the Colorado Association of Libraries celebrates summer learning. First up is Trinidad Public Library's "Adventure Begins at Your Library" program. Read more: trinidadpubliclibrary.org/summer-reading/.
.The Pigeon had a great time at the Pikes Peak Library District. At the Ute Pass branch, the Pigeon explored the arts through self-portrait and considered a career in the culinary arts. The Pigeon continued to learn new skills - including wood-working and metal-working at the Manitou Springs branch.
At the Anythink Libraries Huron Street Branch, the The Pigeon took a joyride through the children's section and got carried away at the copy machine.
At Westview Elementary in Five Star Schools, students were learning about the Pigeon's favorite subject: THE PIGEON! Of course, @the_pigeon had a lot to contribute to the lesson...maybe a little too much.
We are interrupting this broadcast for an important PSA (The Pigeon Service Announcement).
Vive le Pigeon! The Littleton High School library (@lpsk12) was a great place for The Pigeon to learn about France. Did you know that "pigeon" in French is "pigeon" or "pigeonne"?
.The Pigeon did, indeed, go to school and hosted a meet-up with some friends at Gudy Gaskill Elementary in Littleton Public Schools.
.The Pigeon was curious to about accessibility and the Colorado Deaf Blind were a great place to start! The Pigeon learned how to use a cane and a Brailler but had a hard time figuring out sign language using wings.
For The Pigeon's What's Up Wednesday, we're exploring literary genres. At Douglas County School District, the Pigeon stopped by the library at DougHumphreys. The Pigeon learned about different genres of books including scifi and nonfiction. The Pigeon's favorite is ornithological adventure.
Our Douglas County School District tour continued in the library of Cresthill Middle School where The Pigeon did some detective work to solve the Battle of the Books escape room mystery. The Pigeon did ciphers, puzzles, word scrambles, and even used a black light to find hidden clues!
.The Pigeon wanted to learn about 3D printing, so we went to the library at Mesa Middle School in Douglas County School District. With help (and some wing-holding) from librarian Joy Yehle, the Pigeon designed and printed a worm! The Pigeon was disappointed to learn that it is not the edible kind.
At the Lone Tree Branch of Douglas County Libraries, @the_Pigeon got "treatment" for wing burn and went a little overboard helping out at the book return
At Rampart Library District, The Pigeon tried on a new pair of wings & crashed the habitat where Waffles, the library’s bearded dragon, lives. The Pigeon also used the library craft area to build a stage curtain for an Oscar-worthy performance with Fireman Gobble.
Because one Grand County Library branch wasn't enough, The Pigeon's visit to the Kremmling branch included a dip in the sensory tub and storytime with Terry Dactyl and friends. The visit ended early when The Pigeon broke library rules by trying to catch a ride on the TraSheep.
.The Pigeon was at home at Grand County Library's Granby Branch. The Pigeon was really excited about the branch's Library of Things and even borrowed a pickleball set and Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Check Out Colorado State Parks backpack (both of which are now overdue).
Librarians at The Summit Library's North Branch Silverthorne tried to interest The Pigeon in a puzzle. The Pigeon had other ideas -- revising a scavenger hunt and ignoring a warning about Morla the turtle's hot lamp. The Pigeon now has 1st degree wing burns but is recovering.
.The Pigeon told us that the book selections at Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs are excellent but says that the flight maps of the town could use an update. Should we try to explain trail maps?
.The Pigeon's attempts to go undercover at Whittier International Elementary School in the Boulder Valley School District were unsuccessful, but the students who found the Pigeon were kind enough to use it as a learning opportunity about coding using Dash robots.
.The Pigeon brushed up on computer coding at Parachute Branch of Garfield County Libraries but, unfortunately, was asked to leave after taking an unsanctioned ride on a decorative dragon. The Pigeon gave the visit two wings up!
