I’m quoted about antibiotic resistance in this Washington Post article about US public health threats. Article is not correct about 2 companies “going out of business”. Rather, they’ve declared bankruptcy. Still...not good news. ID Pitt Stop washingtonpost.com/health/old-dis…

Daria Van Tyne The Van Tyne Lab I hope this doesn’t mean you’re horizontally transferring genes be the labs! Regardless, I’d encourage all Pitt faculty, students, staff, etc. to learn about this cutting edge work pioneered here, and hear from Pitt’s newest KL2 scholar, Mustapha.

Thank you so much to The Van Tyne Lab Daria Van Tyne, MiGEL, Vaughn Cooper (see: vscooper@bsky), Mustapha M Mustapha, @SundermannAJ, and MANY others who made our work possible! #genomics #epidemiology #microbiology #InfectiousDisease ID Pitt Stop Infectious Diseases and Microbiology

Practicing for my new job! I start next week as an epidemiologist with Allegheny County Health Department, focusing on #COVID19, healthcare-associated infections, and acute flaccid myelitis. I'll be finishing up the Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Master's degree program as a part-time student.

I'd like to sincerely thank Daria Van Tyne and the The Van Tyne Lab for their continued mentorship. These next few months are going to be really hectic, so it means the world that they are so willing to support my professional development.

@CulybaLab I'll miss you guys too! The The Van Tyne Lab couldn't have asked for better next-door neighbors. I'll still be around occasionally and will still be working with the lab part-time, so nobody's gotten rid of me yet!

Very excited to share the latest from us in the The Van Tyne Lab, along with MiGEL and Vaughn Cooper (see: vscooper@bsky). If you have room in your brain for other things besides COVID-19, check it out: elifesciences.org/articles/53886

And of course, the study would not have happened without tireless work from Dan Evans (way to go Dan!) and critical input from @SundermannAJ Mustapha M Mustapha Jane Marsh and Lee Harrison

TLDR: we combined #genomics with #epidemiology to study the horizontal transfer of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) among more than 2,000 whole-genome-sequenced clinical bacterial isolates from a single hospital system. Dan Evans @SundermannAJ MiGEL Vaughn Cooper (see: vscooper@bsky) Daria Van Tyne

Really nice work! Congrats The Van Tyne Lab and Daria Van Tyne !

Here is the eLife - the journal digest for the latest paper from the The Van Tyne Lab! Shout-out to @HayleyN0rdstr0m for the artwork. Thanks again to Daria Van Tyne, MiGEL, Mustapha M Mustapha, @SundermannAJ, Jane Marsh, Vaughn Cooper (see: vscooper@bsky), and many others for their hard work. elifesciences.org/digests/53886/…
