Shelters, warming centers, and “outreach teams” treat us as less than human through bullshit like this. The people need to keep creating warming centers that WE control (and support the one You’re just a racist runs). We keep us safe.

From one of the unhoused people that was swept away from the Super Bowl earlier this week: “Why don’t [public officials] come & spend a day or 2 out here, and see what we’re going through?” They would never because they are cowards and they don’t care what happens to poor people

Okay well then can you comment on why you let unhoused folks freeze to death on the streets last winter? Or why you refused to close the jail you CAMPAIGNED on? Or why you gave APD bonuses during the uprising???

Brian Kemp has ordered the Capitol Police to evict us from our tents and is threatening to arrest us if we don’t leave. Where the hell are we supposed to go?

STOP THE SWEEPS

It doesn't actually take much to disrupt a sweep. Cops are shy about abusing homeless people in front of an angry crowd. But we have to be willing to show up and be that crowd!

Atlanta Homeless Union Here in portland upward of half of all arrests are of unhoused people. Police directly target our most vulnerable for harm, there is no other solution than to oppose directly policies which harm OUR community members. Camp evictions kill. Legalize survival. See you in the streets

UPDATE: We believe we have delayed the sweep and are in negotiations with the state and some agencies: instead of being displaced, we have demanded placement in a hotel until they can expedite and approve EVERY pending section 8 voucher in our group. This is the bare minimum.

We are FINALLY being picked up and taken to a hotel after freezing last night. Our collective action worked to stop the sweep and secure our demands. From what we understand, our actions forced the state, city, and nonprofits to figure something out.

Statement from comrades leading the fight on the ground: Thanks for all your support. We shouldn’t have to fight this hard. But when we fight, we win. We are TIRED and excited to get some rest. We will need it for the fight still ahead.

We just got word that several of our comrades were left behind when they were told they would receive hotel placement if they moved their tents from the area. There are at least 20 ppl downtown STILL WAITING for hotel placement. Did the city and Partners for HOME lie to us?

Call Partners for HOME and remind them that housing is a human right. HOTEL ROOMS AND VOUCHERS FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS ONE. And stop seizing our belongings when we refuse to go to shelters. We have the right to make our own decisions!

From this morning; •Partners from home is funding this project with assistance from PAD/Intown (not sure their involvement) •People we’re sent to a mixture of shelters and hotels •They dropped the ID requirement at the last minute •They knew about the sweeps for a MONTH

Unhoused communities in Atlanta are constantly under threat of displacement. This past Friday the city removed a community of people w/o considering the effects it would have. Belongings were stolen and tents were trashed meaning folks were forced to sleep on the bare concrete.
