🚨 My book "In Our Interest: How Democracies Can Make Immigration Popular" is finally out today with Columbia University Press! 🚨 It tackles one of the biggest challenges today: How can we make freer human mobility between countries more politically sustainable? 🧵

first of all, if you're actively very concerned about what will happen to humanity when the sun explodes in about 5 billion years, you're an idiot. and second, if we want to escape the exploding sun, we've gotta leave the solar system to do that. mars will die too

This figure is striking. It shows the relationship between where people think they are in the income distribution and where they actually are. Observations below the line indicate that people think they are poorer than they really are (and the reverse above the line). What

spain is undergoing a demographic revolution. in just over 40 years (1998-2039), it will have transformed from a country where foreign-born residents were a tiny minority (<3%) to one where nearly 40% of residents are either immigrants themselves or children of immigrants

IR Book of the Week! "How States Die" by Douglas Lemke. State Death and State Failure are rare, but are consequential for those who live in those states, and for the international system. Book offers a essential update and extension Fazal's 2006 book. amazon.com/How-States-Die…

Spread the word: ICE agents in six cars raided a gas station in farmworker town of Oxnard, CA. They surrounded an undocumented father and his two children in a truck, took the father and just left the children behind. "They left the children inside the truck"

Here’s the update. After ICE terrorized this man and his wife, heavily damaged their car, and threw him in jail for weeks, THEY DIDN’T EVEN FILE A CHARGING DOCUMENT. Really does seem the whole thing was an ICE screw-up and they’re too afraid to admit it. turnto10.com/news/local/jud…

Why are HSI agents smashing car windows & abducting immigrants in Waltham, MA—again? No ID. No warrant. Just masked men asking “Are you legal?” like it’s 1942 Germany. Ramos Arucha stayed silent—as is his RIGHT. They shattered glass anyway. This is Gestapo-level terror

On Mother’s Day in Chelsea, MA, brown shirt agents ambushed a family leaving church. They boxed in their SUV, refused to identify themselves, and when the family—following legal advice—didn’t roll down the window, agents shattered it. A gun was drawn. The father was ripped out,

🇧🇴 Luis Arce has withdrawn from this year's presidential race. Arce is unpopular, and his withdrawal opens the way for either Evo Morales and MAS Senator Andronico Rodríguez to lead the left. (Morales may try to run despite a court ruling barring him) apnews.com/article/bolivi…

Wow! Check out this cool working paper. "War Causes Religiosity" The authors scraped web images of hundreds of thousands of gravestones of deceased Americans. They found that people who were randomly drafted into war are at least 20% more likely to have religious gravestones.
