So…you’ve heard that the Webb telescope will be orbiting Lagrange point 2. But what even is that, anyway? And how do you orbit something that isn’t an object? We’ve got you! Here’s a thread ⬇️ #UnfoldTheUniverse

From 18 stars spread all over to 18 stars tightly and neatly arranged. Next up focus, then co-alignment, then fine phasing. Takes a while when things are happening on the far end of a million mile radio link.

Assembly of our ARCHIVED - NASA Europa Clipper spacecraft is now underway at NASA JPL. Scheduled to launch in 2024, this ARCHIVED – NASA Astrobiology mission will conduct close flybys of Jupiter's icy moon Europa, to determine whether it has conditions suitable for life: go.nasa.gov/3MihgwN

Micrometeors are an unavoidable part of building space missions that are difficult to simulate on the ground. With a 25 square meter primary and large sun shield, Webb will be hit by many of varying size. Knowing this, we built Webb with large margins…👍

IMPACT SUCCESS! Watch from #DARTMIssion’s DRACO Camera, as the vending machine-sized spacecraft successfully collides with asteroid Dimorphos, which is the size of a football stadium and poses no threat to Earth.

ABSOLUTE BULLSEYE!!!! HUGE congrats NASA on hitting Dimorphos SMACK in the middle!!! Now we wait to see the LICIAcube video to come back!!! Best of all, because Dimorphos is orbiting Didymos, they can precisely track its orbital change! The data from this will be incredible!
