Today was the official opening for the newly expanded NICU at QMC. The unit has been expanded from 17 to 38 cots and now has more family space, a dedicated bereavement suite and a dedicated teaching space and fully kitted out SIM area. 1/5

The intensive care areas are large, bright, & separated by glass privacy panels which help sound proofing. Each space has 2 armed pendants with all the equipment (ventilator, monitor, computer, infusion devices) in place. There are 2 side rooms and 1 ventilated isolation room 2/5

There is a dedicated family area with bedrooms, kitchen, laundry and eating and relaxing space 3/5

The special care area is also larger and allows a dedicated space for each family 4/5

The bereavement space (Snowdrop Room) has a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and private space dedicated for babies receiving end of life care together with their parents. 5/5

The staff kitchen and eating area is expanded, bright and divided into several areas making it a better more relaxing space in which to take a break
