I’m afraid that one just has to say “so what?” Int’l law has no purchase over the actions of rogue states, especially when they are facilitated & protected by other states that are not (yet) rogue — the US consistently, U.K., Germany & other champions of rule-based order too.

An interesting question, to which the answer is probably “No”. Massive imbalance of forces, long duration, small area, endless resupply by others including, shamefully, us, impunity, hatred & dehumanisation of the enemy, & no theory of victory short of total destruction.
