When I became Chairperson of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform I knew I would not be able to keep all other committee assignments to include Judiciary, Intelligence and Ethics. Four committee assignments, including a Chairmanship, is a challenging workload. /1

In the spirit of that workload and wanting to do right for my constituents and for the country at large, I have decided to step down from the House Ethics committee. /2

I chose to step down from this committee because, out of the three committees I do not chair, Ethics is easily the one that is least interesting, definitely personally challenging, and let's face it, as a lawyer, completely irrelevant. /end
