At SIGNS@HWU (aka Heriot-Watt BSL team) we are excited to let everyone know we are researching what Deaf BSL users watch on TV, funded by @BSLZone. We are asking deaf people to complete a diary of what they watched on TV in a week. Contact [email protected] for more details if you want to take part

Thank you. Some of us have a hard time just getting linguists to always use inclusive language that reflects this fact. If we linguists can’t do it, how is this ever going to change?

A running theme in both the social and health care sectors. Staff wellbeing is frequently disregarded on a practical level in favour of lip service and patronising "advice" such as this. Having a constantly burnt out workforce is completely unsustainable.

This is terrible. 100% false & ignored decades of research into sign languages. Authors clearly haven’t done a comprehensive lit review. I’m deeply offended & appalled. This article shd be removed immediately.

This is how Ofsted inspectors are trained to respond to teachers who resist standard language ideologies. Note how they use guises of 'social justice' to do this, perpetuating the myth that if marginalised people would just modify their voice, this will solve social inequalities.

Language revitalization is not a zero-sum game. A language "gain" is not another language's "loss". Multilingualism was “normal” before colonial conquest & 1–language, 1–nation-state ideologies. Imperialism, colonialism & capitalism cause language inequities, not multilingualism.

21st February is #motherlanguageday Every deaf child should be given the opportunity to have their community signed language as one of their first languages

Gender critical thinking seems to share a lot with linguistic prescriptivism. It’s all about what should or should not be, and not actually acknowledging the diversity of human behaviour.

Yes, sign languages are beautiful but did you know hearing parents are told not to sign with their deaf children by hearing professionals and have to fork out thousands of £ of their own money to learn to sign and to talk to their own kids? #SignLanguageWeek
