Can't believe what I'm hearing. Swift bricks aren't even controversial. They're a cheap, easy way to restore our dwindling bird population. Yet neither Tory Minister, nor Lab opposition, will commit to make them mandatory. What planet are they on?? RSPB Hannah Bourne-Taylor

All I want is to live in a society where the people in charge care about the well-being of the people they serve, and place that as their number one priority. Not power. Not the wishes of donors. Not money. Not personal advancement. Is that too much to ask for?

Sainsbury’s CEO gets paid almost £4m in bonuses, on top of his salary. He’s on £2,298 per hour, while Sainsbury workers are getting £11 per hour. And we get told workers salaries are driving inflation. Rubbish, it’s the greed of the elite driving inflation.

I think ticket offices at railway stations are one of those things that remind of what a society should actually be. Real jobs and real interactions , and community can sometimes be placed above shareholder dividends. It's a choice we can make. #SaveTicketOffices

Want to have your local river designated as bathing water? Not unless there is at least 100 swimmers a day using that bit of river and toilets within 500 metres (1,640ft) you won't. You'd almost think govt were trying hid something. They are; sewage. thetimes.co.uk/article/govern…

Ahh! So acting CEO of Thames Water 💧, formerly CEO of Ofwat the water industry regulator was apparently "Responsible for ensuring that Ofwat held a £120 billion industry to account". So how's that one working out then?

Why does it fall to fishermen, surfers, swimmers, paddle boarders and community groups to hold the Environment Agency to account? What the hell have the board been doing? Where is the transparency, where is the scrutiny, where is the accountably?

Average pay at the Bank of England last year grew to £69,603 whilst the average pension contribution by the Bank grew by 18.7% to £20,317, which is paid on top of the salary. Nice work if you can get it, and so much for pay constraint. taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/07/1…

The Tufton Street Mob are setting up what they are calling the ‘Honest Money Initiative’. In the spirit of that, might they like to tell us where they get their money from?

Just some final darks to add to this experimental reduction print. I was all ready to bin it a few colours back. 😊I’m more pleased now.. and am definitely going to do more reductions. It’s quite exciting! 😊

The government and the Bank of England are again calling today for wage restraint to beat inflation - as if the whole cost of beating inflation must fall on wage-earning households and not the companies and banks that are causing it or the wealthy who are gaining. A thread....

The first of a series of illustrations of the visit of the Prince of Wales to Halifax in August 1863. It shows the Prince leaving Halifax Station. The entrance in those days was on a level with Eureka's car park. It made a spectacular scene with Beacon Hill in the background.

Let me rewrite this Guardian story for them. What is actually happening is that the Bank of England’s plan to redirect vast chunks of the government’s budget towards rewarding the wealthy is working very nicely for them by denying help to those who really need it in society.
