The mood was defiant at many of the rallies, where chants of “Scientists will not be silenced”, “Facts over fear” and “What do we want? Peer review! When do we want it? Now!” were heard. go.nature.com/43rWyFG

Currently, NIH's Center for Scientific Review reviews 66,000 grant applications a year, with panels run by NIH’s separate institutes reviewing the rest. Under a new plan, the institute-run panels will be eliminated, and many of the scientists overseeing them will be laid off.

Trump terminated $1.8B in science funding in 40 days. A loss of ~$4.6B in future economic activity. Means a higher fraction of new discoveries will be overseas. We'll be buying our future drugs from other countries...and, oh - they'll have tariffs on them. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
