"There’s just been so much more messaging on crime the last couple of years and it has coincided with people suddenly feeling unsafe."

Great decision. As usual we are seeing pushback with the creation of a new narrative about gang recruitment - for which there is a lack of evidence. Police do not keep students safe.

1/8 Given the surge in interest in the Canadian federal penitentiary system in recent days, here are a few contributions published recently in the JPP for those interested in understanding the grim realities of human caging in these settings.

Every activist/organizer/concerned citizen etc. should be enraged & worried sick about what is happening to Adora Nwofor & Taylor McNallie in Alberta right now. From the extraneous charges and convenient “clerical error” to the massive right-wing platforms demonizing two

In disbelief re: decision to drop all charges against Skyler Williams: "In this Court's struggle to answer 'to what public' under 730 of the Criminal Code, I am prepared to rely on the application of Haudenosaunee law." A rare prioritization of Indigenous over settler interests.

it's #PrisonersJusticeDay ! It's a solidarity movement that takes place annually on August 10. The movement began in Canada in 1974 in support of prisoners' rights and to remember all the people who have died of unnatural deaths while incarcerate.

The thing about this case in Calgary is that it's going to have massive implications for freedom of speech in Canada going forward. More people should be paying attention to Taylor's case for that reason. #CdnPoli

My friend Freddy was viciously assaulted by CPS in 2013. He was left permanently disabled due to his injuries, but a lawsuit remains ongoing 10 years later. He has received no support from the City or the Province while he is unable to hold a job and unable to pay bills.

We received a call at 2AM from an individual who was fighting with their partner. They had been using drugs for multiple days. There was a report of weapons and violence. The caller was scared to call police because he wanted help for his girlfriend, not for her to be arrested.

🧵With the introduction of Bill 18 and the Alberta Premier's comments on federal funding being unfairly distributed to liberal disciplines, my research partner and I pulled the Social Science and Humanities Research Council funding data from the past 10 years.

Proud of my colleagues for addressing the misinformation released by admin regarding the encampment. They also put forward another invitation to have admin come and speak to the students.
