I welcome the PM’s announcements around more support for boiler upgrades and planning reform. Both are very positive. But a lot of straw men have been offered up which simply weren’t policy. Nobody serious in politics was talking about banning flying, taxing meat etc.

I’ve been binge (re)reading @SamAlvis2’s Election Energy substack. Number 11 is a great look at what the politics of HIV aid in the US in the 2000s can teach us for tackling climate change electionenergy.substack.com

Delighted “Catastrophe at the Academy” is up for the #UKARIAS. We uncovered that bribes were taken for ticketless entry and too few security staff were on duty at the Asake gig that ended with two people dead in the Brixton Academy crush Carl Johnston bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

Vallance backing for 2030 a real coup for Labour. Bit of a win for Green Alliance, too, which laid out wonkish plans for Whitehall adopting a "vaccine mindset" on clean energy goals back in January (a story broken by POLITICO, natch.)

Now more than ever let's get behind & support these young people. We can all see what's happening & who's being set up to be the face of defeat. We are going to be gas lit with explanations & justifications, but those deciding who goes on the back pages know what they’re doing.

This election result proves people want action on the climate and nature crises. We now have a govt with a clear mandate to deliver on renewable energy, cheaper bills and a thriving natural environment. 💪

We love to see it. A great choice to lead a clean power 'Mission Control' - using a vaccine task force approach to clean power by 2030. This is exactly the kind of commitment we called for, specifically on flexible power, in our Green Alliance briefing: green-alliance.org.uk/briefing/why-a…

.Rachel Reeves missed the memo that Chancellor’s are normally boring, with her flurry of growth focussed announcements. Here’s a few more things she and HM Treasury can do to get the economy growing and the UK closer to the greener future it voted for. greenallianceblog.org.uk/2024/07/16/rac…

Today's Climate Change Committee report says annual installations for offshore wind must triple, onshore double, and solar increase 5x. Stu Dossett says "...we [also] need more low carbon, flexible power... the best way to get this built is through a task force approach".

NEW REPORT on GB Energy, and the role of the state by Nesta and Baringa. This work underpins some of what is being announced today. 🧵 nesta.org.uk/report/the-rol… 1/17

This is the big news we've been waiting for the last few weeks. Would Ed Miliband bump up the CfD budget to get offshore wind back on track to meet targets? This (paywalled) scoop suggests there is a boost, but it's not as large as industry was hoping for... Quick 🧵

Head of Mission Control Chris Stark speaking at Green Alliance. The fun: unsuccessfully tries to convince us he didn’t choose his title. Motivated to prove wrong the 2030 clean power doubters. “We’re not pissing around” may become the clean power mission’s mantra. #GAevent

Head of Mission Control Chris Stark speaking at Green Alliance. The serious. As we called for, confirms a vaccine taskforce approach to clean power. It’s key for growth and freeing people from chaotically priced fossil fuels. Commits to a nature voice at the table. #GAevent

Nature Minister Mary Creagh CBE MP is speaking at Green Alliance. “Without nature there is no economy, food, health or society.” She talks up the importance of natural capital for the economy - hopefully HM Treasury is listening. Our Dasgupta project has more on this. #GAevent

Nature Minister Mary Creagh CBE MP on the Dasgupta review: “It was a report worthy of a Nobel prize. One of the challenges is how to work that into policy. It’s a foundational document but we are on a journey and we’re in our infancy in how we measure and value nature.” #GAevent
