Have worn these Rocky Boots boots for all four years we’ve owned Rattlesnake Ranch. On our cursed property where EVERYTHING breaks, these boots have never let me down.

Winger, our rooster with paint splotches on his back (because he’s an alpha moron), started to “cock-a-doodle-doo” last night.

That pic is from about a month ago…today, he’s closing in on 4 months old. Here’s a current pic (should have taken with a copy of today’s newspaper):

That’s her…she’s getting bigger and maturing. We’re hoping to get one or two more this fall, when a friend’s calves are ready to move.

I’ve literally been in a lawn chair for over 90 minutes watching this circus. 12 birds, lot of drama. Flock dynamics are fascinating.

They were pretty good tonight, considering it was their first time. I had to scatter treats on the floor of the run to keep the flock occupied (read: not run out again) while Mrs Steve and I chased the two rebel holdouts around to the door (then they ran in on their own).

The weather is heating up, and so are the quails. We HAD five females and three males — until two females got — um — “banged” to death overnight. So one male got relocated today. Not quite to Hell, but on the doorstep. Boy #2 going tomorrow if it doesn’t improve for the girls.
