This is peak #highered #conferenceszn and the topic of sexual harassment and assault in the academy has been on my mind. A few thoughts I have as we gear up for #aera2024... (This message will not be advice to women& femmes but a call for men to hold each other accountable). 🧵

Prof M (@hmccambly) 's Twitter Profile Photo

First, women& femmes in the academy, especially among woc, have long had whisper networks about who to avoid and how to stay safe. But it's not enough. New predators are always out there But new pathways toward healing and community accountability do not. That should change.

Second, men, and especially those of you who identify as social justice scholars, if this isn't something you've thought about, please start. If not you, then someone in your networks has either enacted or been subject to harassment or harm from their academic community.

Third, community accountability means men treating it as their business when they see their homies acting wrong or making women&femmes uncomfortable. It's not hard to tell. It also means centering w&f who have been harmed and showing up for community led intervention.

And last thing I'll say for now, is if you've experienced harm like this in a professional setting in academia, you're not alone, you have nothing to be ashamed of, and your community will believe you and can see you through this. #AcademicChatter

Reflecting back on a great few days of Institute for Educational Leadership #WPS24 in DC. An amazing opportunity to hear from some of K-12 and #highered fiercest advocates, connect with California EPFP cohort mates & new fellows, chat with Rep. Doris Matsui staffers, and listen in on the United States House of Representatives in session!

What about decreasing property taxes on homes that definitely have not increased in value? Or a major overhaul to the worthless MMAI plans if you aren’t in Chicago? Or lowering the gas tax? Right now IL is not a state for the working class.

If you're making your way to #AERA24, things to keep in mind: 🚨 Badge Pick-up: Located at the Convention Center with the entrance on Market St. (Near the Dunkin' Donuts). There are multiple (closed) entrances.... ✅ They are checking Safe Access Vaccine status at Badge Pickup

“Clearly, rural colleges are vital. And yet many grapple with shrinking funding and enrollments. In order to best help these institutions, it’s important to have a better understanding of who they are. This is the story of what counts as a rural college.” chronicle.com/featured/stude…

ECMC Foundation Rural Impact Initiative’s research #RFP is something I’ve spent months thinking about and highlights the areas we still need to understand in order to implement strategies that are co-created with #rural learners and communities. #highered linkedin.com/posts/ecmcfoun…
