The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that part of what’s happening with these protests may be the release of a pent-up craving to exist in the physical world, to experience connection and autonomy and community and purpose in an unregulated, unmediated way.

personally I think peer pressure, ignorance and motivated reasoning are better explanations for why so many people, including professional journalists, *aren’t* upset. How can you look at so much suffering and keep coming up with excuses not to care?

My city is about to rip out a slow street because some drivers complained. To keep it I would have to go door to door the same week a major work project is due. So it will return to a drag strip. It should not take heroic effort and blood sacrifice to get safety improvements.

It'd be nice to be able to say that viewpoint neutrality is the reason for the current wave of suppression of student dissent—it's a simple, liberal, even-handed explanation. But it's a FACTUAL claim, and one that doesn't stand up to even mild scrutiny. It's just not true.

What we're seeing now isn't evidence of colleges' commitment to viewpoint neutrality, but a reaction against the exact opposite.

Restrictive zoning laws play a crucial role in the lack of housing stock across the US. Additionally, neighbors consistently block multi-family housing, which is another contributing factor. It’s time for state-wide action here in Michigan.

This centrally located 6,000 square foot parking lot could cover its property taxes for the year (estimated) if 60 cars park at this rate. Downtown surface parking lots are truly the best business that our property tax system incentivizes.
