Interesting story. To further add to this, out of ~4k Indian SARS-CoV-2 genomes currently in the public domain (GISAID/SRA), more than half were submitted by CSIR, India labs, of samples from across India.

Happy to use #tableau for a viz in a publication. Thx #datafam for inspiration n advice, Michael Petrey for accessible colour suggestion. Fig 3. Interactive version: dataviz.in/sars-co-v-2-ge… #SARSCoV2 sequencing details: data.ccmb.res.in/gear19/ @bic_ccmb

Viruses change with time and get new characteristics or lose older ones. Genome sequencing lets us monitor these changes. How has India been faring in it? Somdatta Karak writes for The Wire Science. CSIR, India Department of Biotechnology science.thewire.in/the-sciences/i…

DiviSSR (pronounced divisor): The story of how we used simple arithmetic division based on a mathematical pattern to efficiently identify tandem repeats in genomes and short sequence reads. Kudos to Avvaru Akshay for almost single-handedly creating this tool!

Ending the year with an article on the nuances of Next Generation Sequencing. Wonderful initiative by Disha working with our team @bic_ccmb. I enjoyed guiding this effort with Somdatta Karak and look forward to working with more youngsters on genome #sequencing related #scicomm!

Off to my first participation at the Indie Comix Fest tomorrow at Bangalore. Will put up the zines, comix and postcards that I have made with ipsa jain (she/her), arghya manna, The Visual Stories Studio, Sweena Chaudhari Joshi and Rupsy Khurana. Do come by. I'd love to meet peeps who love science comix.

Catch our very own Onkar Kulkarni representing @csirccmb at #AmazonAIConclave for a session on utilising AI and ML in our work on genomics. Together with Amazon Web Services, we set foot in the era of cutting edge precision genomics!

Many congratulations to Pratheusa Machha, Ph.D. on winning the Student Scholarship award at #ISHG2024 for her work on founder events in Indian populations! 👏🏼👏🏼

With genomics gaining popularity among young researchers, our scientist Avvaru Akshay was invited to conduct a workshop on RNA-Seq analysis NIT Warangal as part of the Ingenious tech fest! The participants were enthusiastic and actively engaged in discussion making it a success.
