Amazing interconnection from this nights catching. 3 controls were from 21/6/24 in Faro, Portugal (1609km in 27 days), 18/7/23 in Porthgwarra, Cornwall and one I ringed on 27/7/18 Cape Clear Bird Obs after which I proposed to PalomaB! Also one recaptured Skokholm Island on 4/8/24 BTO

What an unforgettable experience - Great pieces of data collected for a species that definitely needs to be explored and studied more!

A fine distraction from the washing up this evening. We see Common Dolphins from the Lighthouse most days at this time of year, although they don't always come in so close

Manx Shearwater chick measuring is always a fantastic opportunity to show our guests why it is so important to stay on the paths. There are currently somewhere in the region of 65,000 of these fluffballs hidden away in fragile burrows.

We're back from a 2 week holiday and straight into the productivity plots. All of the young Storm Petrels are still present (with 75% of attempts still active), whilst the first two Manx Shearwater chicks have fledged (although one was found in a different nest 20m away)

The young Red-backed Shrike is still near Orchid Bog on occasion. We only see one every two years so well worth the long wait in the hide. BirdGuides

I should have posted this a week ago! A huge (belated) thanks to Skokholm Island for an amazing stay last weekend. Rich and Giselle and the team do a fabulous job there, and it's just the most amazing place to be. After a five year gap, it was a real treat to be back💚

Spot the wardens. Searching for young Storm Petrels amongst Skokholm's spectacular old red sandstone boulders - there is surely no finer way to spend a sunny August afternoon

September is a magical time on Dream Island. Today saw a small but diverse arrival, the details of which are, as always, at skokholm.blogspot.com

It's not only the birds which are exciting in September. Black-banded and Webb's Wainscot are Skokholm breeders, whilst a Four-spotted Footman was only the second since 1937 and a Blood-vein was the third ever

Not quite what we were expecting whilst trying to catch Snipe. What's that in the corner of its mouth? A House Mouse which it kept hold of throughout

Barred Warblers are pretty rare in Wales; on Skokholm one today was only the fourth of the last 12 years. A Dotterel went over and a Spoonbill was on North Pond, whilst at least ten Tree Pipit, four Yellow Wagtail, a Redstart and three Whinchat are about the Obs

Two Convolvulus Hawk-moth and an Anomalous in the trap today, the former two weighing more than one of the Goldcrests bouncing through the Bracken
